/>The course is laid out in two 9-hole loops, with a links-style feel thanks to the undulating fairways, over 100 small bunkers, and large, undulating greens. However, with water on all but two holes, numerous large beach bunkers, and a predominantly palm tree landscape, this design isn't a fake links style, but rather a nod to the origins of golf. Platinum Seashore Paspalum grass ensures a suitable playing surface year-round.
/>While many holes are of considerable length, the two shorter par-4 holes, holes 5 and 14, offer a unique challenge. This exemplifies how short holes can be just as challenging as long, grueling ones. Hole 5, with its gentle downward slope, is a driveable par-4, but sand and water await risky tee shots or missteps, while the green dropping far from the golfer demands precise approach shots. Hole 14 is also brimming with risk/reward opportunities, forcing golfers to rethink their strategy each time they play this hole.
The four par-3 holes, though of similar length, present different questions, with hole 8 being the most challenging. The greens, fairways, and course contours are inspired by the landscape of Vietnam, while the peninsula, resembling an island, contains all the holes.
Tuan Chau Golf Course, situated next to Ha Long Bay and UNESCO-recognized limestone formations, is inspired by the shape known as the Rooster Rock or "Rooster Rock". Two of the greens and many of the bunker shapes reflect the famous silhouette of these rock formations. The course's final four holes are arguably the most challenging finishing holes in Vietnam. Three par-4s and one par-5 are all played over and along the water. Holes 15 through 19 are called the “Chicken Run” because they challenge players to complete their round.
