Kaufman scored 10 under in the final round on October 25. In the last 11 holes alone, the 23-year-old golfer scored an eagle and seven birdies to end the tournament with a score of 16 strokes under par.

As many as six golfers were within one stroke of Kaufman, including Jason Bohn, Alex Cejka, Patton Kizzire, Kevin Na, Brett Stegmaier and Cameron Tringale. As a result, the new Shriners Hospitals for Children champion had to wait more than two hours anxiously to find out if anyone had passed him.

“I have It felt like I was dodging a bunch of bullets from the guys behind me. It was even more nerve-wracking when I was doing my thing,” Smylie Kaufman said.

The win earned Smylie Kaufman $1.152 million in prize money and earned her a spot in the 2016 Masters, Players Championship, and PGA Championship.

This was Smylie Kaufman’s second tournament on the PGA Tour. Prior to his professional career, Kaufman played on the Web.com Tour. In his first tournament, which was also his first PGA Tour start of the 2015-2016 Frys.com Open, the American golfer finished 10th.
