TRUONG CHÍ QUÂN
Birth date: February 14, 1998
Height: 1m82
Attended school: Arizona State University (USA)
>Golf Today (GNN): Please tell us how you feel when you win the Vô amateur Vietnamese team?
Truong Chi Quan: I feel proud because I am the first person to win the national championship for three consecutive years. At this year's tournament, I tried very hard because Before practicing at Sacom Tuyen Lam Golf Course, I heard many people say that the course was very difficult, with narrow fairways and very steep greens. However, I was still not satisfied with the final result, because I did not achieve the score goals that I had set. set before the tournament.
GNN: Do you think it is appropriate for the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA), the tournament organizer, to invite foreign athletes to participate? an obstacle for you in this year's tournament?
Truong Chi Quan: In fact, it's the opposite. I feel very happy and excited when I hear that this year's tournament, the Organizing Committee invites more athletes from countries with Golf is developing in Asia to participate. For me, this is really an opportunity to compete at a high level, in a much more competitive atmosphere than previous tournaments. That has stimulated me to have more motivation to compete. I really thank the tournament organizers, VGA, for coming up with this initiative. I am also no stranger to many young golfers from the Philippines and Singapore, because played many international tournaments with them.
GNN: But it was the presence of foreign golfers that ultimately cost him the overall championship trophy, the prestigious trophy first, into the hands of Ruperto Zaragosa III of the Philippines. Through this, do you think that the level of foreign golfers is higher than that of Vietnamese golfers?
Truong Chi Quan: With what happened in this tournament, I don't think Ruperto's level is much higher than mine. Actually, I'm at the same level as Ruperto because we've played many tournaments together, some he won, some I won. But in golf, every week there will be a different winner. I want to congratulate Ruperto on this victory and I hope to compete with Ruperto in the next tournaments. I lost to Ruperto in the category of the Overall Champion Cup this time, perhaps because I was a little unlucky in my birdie putts. But I affirm that it was only because I was a little unlucky in this tournament, not because of inferior level.
GNN: From the position of a golfer who has been the amateur golf champion of Vietnam for 3 consecutive years, how do you evaluate What is the current level of Vietnamese golfers?
Truong Chi Quan: Compared to previous years, this year's tournament has There has been a lot of progress in terms of organization as well as seriousness, demonstrated by the addition of referees from the Vietnam Golf Referees Club (VGR). That has helped this year's tournament become very professional. Vietnamese golfers have shown progress and high competitiveness in the tournament. However, in my opinion, there are still too many Vietnamese golfers who play national tournaments just for fun, without setting the goal of winning the cup. Like that, cannot improve. Hopefully in the future, each time the national amateur golf tournament is held, there will be at least 50 young Vietnamese golfers competing with all their might with the goal of winning the tournament.
GNN: The Winning the national championship so many times in a row does not make me lose my motivation to strive when participating in domestic competitions? I always set my own goals for each tournament. I want to engrave my name in the history of the tournament as much as possible so that no one will surpass me in the future. That's why every year I enter the tournament with that mindset. victory.
GNN: Before the National Amateur Golf Open Championship took place, you were given a special ticket by VGA to participate in the Ho Tram Players Championship in April 2017. You have Can you tell us a little about your goals and preparation plans for that tournament?
Truong Chi Quan: Ho Tram Players Championship là The top international tournament in Asia, gathering many superstars of the world golf village. Therefore, my current achievable goal is to pass the qualifying round of the tournament. To complete that goal, I will practice more. Next August, I will go back to the US to study at Arizona State University (currently a school with golf achievements in the top 10 in the NCAA Division 1 system). There, I hope the coaches will have how to help me improve my skills so that I can compete with the "stars" at the Ho Tram Players Championship.
GNN: It is known that you mainly practice golf in the US, a place with the most developed golf industry in the world. So in the future, do you plan to switch to playing professionally like a tour player?
Truong Chi Quan: After completing my undergraduate degree in the US, I will consider whether to play golf professionally or focus on business. Right now, I still have to focus on both of those goals. But my main goal is still to become the first male golfer from Vietnam to compete on the PGA Tour or European Tour. I still try to continue practicing every day to have can achieve your ambitions.
GNN: Can you tell us more about the school you attended, and What is your golf practice schedule like?
Truong Chi Quan: I study at Core Golf Academy (Florida, USA) and will soon attend Arizona State University (USA). The golf coach at this school is the younger brother of the famous golfer Phil Mickelson, Mr. Tim Mickelson. He is a very good coach, professional and strict with his students. This is one of the reasons I chose to play for the golf team at Arizona State University after considering many offers and golf scholarships from other famous schools. My training schedule is very "heavy" and harsh. In the evening, I attend cultural classes from 8 am to 12 pm, then practice at the driving range or play on the main course until 6 pm. Besides exercise, during the week I need to set aside 3 to 4 days to exercise.
>GNN: Thank you andà Good luck with your future plans!
