10 OUTSTANDING VIETNAM GOLF EVENTS IN 2020

1. Timely Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic In late February 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic began to show signs of outbreaks in several countries, including those with a large number of golf tourists visiting Vietnam such as South Korea, Vietnamese golf courses quickly implemented initial actions to raise safety standards to the maximum level. Sky Lake Golf Course, Hilltop Valley Golf Course, FLC Biscom Golf Course system, etc., have successively announced the suspension of bookings from customers from countries with outbreaks. Along with that, golf courses in the country are developing plans and establishing synchronized measures to prevent the spread of the disease according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of customers and staff, making golf a safe destination for fans of this sport.

Also this year, Vietnamese golf has two more representatives on the WAGR:Nguyen Dang Minh (National Amateur Champion 2020) and Nguyen Minh Tuan (best amateur golfer of VPG Tour FLC Sam Son 2020).

This is also the tournament that kicks off the dramatic match play format this year. From the 12 Zodiac Animals tournament, the 4th Hanoi Golf Club Championship, the Nghe An Golf Club Championship, the Ten-Team Tournament bringing together 10 universities to outings and friendly matches between clubs, all have adopted match play instead of traditional stroke play.

4. 108 Holes Challenge Single Match: The "Prodigy" of Vietnamese Golf Two members of the 1984 Golf Club, Nguyen Hong Duc and Bui Manh Cuong, set an unprecedented record for the total number of holes played in a single day at Sky Lake Golf Course. The 108-hole single match (match-based scoring per hole) was completed in a total time of 13 hours and 20 minutes (from 5:17 to 18:38, August 25th) with the victory going to golfer Bui Manh Cuong, 13Up.

5. 4th Hanoi Golf Club Championship: Where Sport Blends with Cultural Beauty Besides the change in format to match play, the 4th Hanoi Golf Club Championship brings many differences, becoming the "locomotive" of amateur golf. For the first time, a golf tournament is "infused" with traditional culture. With the theme “36 streets”, 36 golf holes at Sky Lake are connected to a street, recreating the unique cultural features and most cherished memories of the old capital.

The appeal of a large-scale tournament organized by the Hanoi City Golf Association is also reflected in the impressive numbers. In 2020, the Organizing Committee received 56 clubs registering to participate (47 clubs in 2019), competing in the qualifying round and selecting the 36 best clubs to advance. A total of 216 Single Matches took place over two days (October 9th and 10th) with 648 athletes participating and a large cheering crowd, including family, friends, and relatives of each athlete. As a result of the tournament, KB Cau Giay Club successfully defended its championship title.

7. Accordingly, Mr. Le Kien Thanh continues to hold the position of Chairman, and Mr. Le Hung Nam becomes the new General Secretary of the Association.

FLC Vietnam Masters 2020: Back to the Beginning Due to the pandemic, the VPGA Tour only organized one tournament, the FLC Vietnam Masters 2020, with a prize fund of 1 billion VND, from December 1-4 at FLC Golf Links Sam Son, the venue where the VPGA Tour professional tournament system first debuted to the golf community. Attracting 89 top domestic and foreign golfers living and working in Vietnam, FLC Vietnam Masters met fans' expectations with unexpected developments and records during the opening week. That was 13-year-old Doan Uy, who caused a sensation by becoming the only golfer to shoot under par in the second round. Another amateur athlete, 18-year-old Vo Gia Thong, re-established PGA Pham Minh Duc's 67-stroke record (2017) in the third round. Then there was Truong Chi Quan, who wrote history at FLC Golf Links Sam Son, breaking the record held by Gia Thong and Minh Duc with a final round of 66 strokes (-6), thus staging a comeback to finish as runner-up.

In the 2021 season, there will be 12 golf tournaments organized systematically and regularly from March to December. On average, one professional or amateur tournament will be held each month. Of these, 5 stages of the VGA Tour have prize money ranging from 1 billion to 1.5 billion VND: FLC Vietnam Masters (May 10-15, FLC Golf Links Quy Nhon); Vietnam Open (June 7-12, Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An); National Championship (August 9-14); Challenge (September 6-11); and the final stage, MB Tour Championship, which reaches the maximum prize money (December 13-18).
